Olivia Burton, 23, moves to California with her boyfriend – Francis Morales, 24 – against the wishes of her family members. Francis’ mother Lillian is a devout Catholic who disapproves of her son’s cohabitation and expresses her feelings in the form of postcards with violent and religious motifs. Despite these objections, the young lovers get used to their new, exciting life together. However, their happiness is interrupted when Francis is physically and mentally injured in a freak accident.
